General
- Do I have to fill out an application if I just want to participate?
Yes. Space for participation is limited, and we can only consider those participants who fill out an application form and submit it by the deadline.
- What is a "general participant"?
General participants are Encuentro attendees; they do not participate in Work Groups, nor are they presenting artists. They may go to all events including Keynote Lectures and Roundtables, participate in Teach-Ins, and attend performances, including Mainstage and Trasnocheo.
- I missed the submission deadline! Can I still apply/attend?
Unfortunately we are unable to make exceptions for those participants who have missed the deadline to apply. Space at the 2016 Encuentro will be extremely limited, and we foresee a very large pool of worthy applicants. Get your submissions in by the deadline!
Partners/Collaborators
- My partner/collaborator listed me on their project. Do I still have to fill out an application?
Yes. All participants who wish to attend the Encuentro must fill out an application form with their bio, c.v./résumé, statement of intent, etc., and submit it by the deadline. However, you do not need to submit a project proposal, as your partner/collaborator has already done so.
- My project was accepted for inclusion in the Encuentro, but I forgot to list my collaborator/stage manager/etc. Can they still come?
Only registered participants may attend the Encuentro. If your partner/collaborator did not apply to the Encuentro, they will not be able to attend. Please be very careful and list all necessary collaborators when submitting your proposals.
- I was listed as a collaborator on a project that was not accepted to the Encuentro. Can I still come?
If you did not fill out an application separate from your partner(s), you will not be considered for general participation. If, however, you did apply as a general participant and received an acceptance letter from the Encuentro producers, you may register to attend the Encuentro.
Project Submissions
- I want to apply with the same project from last Encuentro. Do I really have to re-submit all my materials?
Every Encuentro is held in a different city, with different producers, and a different paradigm for what will make it special and unique. For that reason, we do not keep previous proposals "on file." You will need to re-submit all materials according to the current application process.
- Why wasn't my project accepted?
Projects may be denied a place in an Encuentro for a host of reasons--from scheduling, to relatedness to theme, etc.--and unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide feedback on individual submissions.
Website/Application FAQs
- Where do I submit my project proposals?
You must complete your "Basic Information Form" and "Submissions Overview" before you can submit your individual project proposals.
- Why can't I upload my photos?
Please make sure the format of your photos is compatible with the application. Your photos may be too low-resolution, too large, or improperly formatted for uploading.
- How do I know my Encuentro application has been fully submitted?
Your application to the Encuentro will be considered submitted once each section's status is marked as "Complete" on this page. The application review process will begin after the application deadine has passed. You will be able to edit your Bio, Statement of Intent, and CV in your Basic Information Form up until the deadline. If there are Project Proposals still marked as "In Progress" after the deadline, they will not be reviewed. If your Basic Information Form is marked as "Incomplete" at the time of the deadline, your Encuentro application will not be considered.
